WHY SERVICE LEARNING?
Service Learning transforms education from something students receive into something they live. Hands-on service learning projects don’t just teach—they connect classroom concepts to real-world needs, fostering deeper understanding. Students gain practical skills while developing empathy, civic responsibility, and a sense of purpose. At the same time, they build meaningful connections with the community, creating a cycle of learning and service that benefits everyone involved.

Homegrown projects are designed by you! You select the community issue you want to address, choose a service partner to work with, and create the lesson plans.

Ready-to-Go projects are pre-packaged service learning projects developed by STEM Library Lab for schools in the Greater New Orleans area. The service component has been paired with relevant classroom curriculum and is aligned with Louisiana standards.
