Phenomenon Question: How can sound or light make an object move?

This month’s workshop will focus on waves and how to demonstrate how waves behave and function to students. We will explore many tools from the Equipment Lending Co-op to demonstrate to students that waves in fact cause an interaction with objects. By using a speaker to show motion, a boat water, sand on the beach, and a spectrometer to show light causing motion, students will see how waves can interact with objects. We will explore the typical movement of waves by using springs and slinkys. Finally, we will look at Spectrometry to show light waves in a spectrum and explore our Spectrum Tubes and other light energy materials.
