AmeriCorps Free Store Coordinator

STEM Library Lab fosters high-quality active learning by providing teachers with access to equipment, programs, experiences and STEM instructional support to drive student success.

Program Mission and/ or Goals:
The Free-Store Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the operations of SLL’s Free-Store, Teacher’s Lounge, and Copy/Print Center.

Member Position Summary:
The FSC will be responsible for overseeing volunteers and interns in TFS. They will refine the system that has been established to track incoming and outgoing materials. Their goals will center around the amount of donations, volunteers and partners for TFS

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Stocking the Free-Store and Copy/Print Center with the supplies to make them effective resources
  • Overseeing volunteers and interns to maintain and staff the Free-Store
  • Communicating with teachers electronically and on-site to ensure they have the support needed to actively benefit from the Free-Store and Copy/Print Center (with SLL’s Outreach Coordinator)
  • Communicating with in-kind donors to intake new materials to the Free-Store
  • Creating systems to track incoming/outgoing materials

Member Impact
The Teacher Free Store provides materials to teachers that they would otherwise have to purchase with their own money. The duties of the FSC will help us identify the critical items needed by teachers and streamline the process to get those materials into teachers hands. We anticipate more teachers utilizing TFS and in turn being introduced to the other programs offered by STEM Library Lab.

What skills, knowledge and trainings should the corps members expect to gain from this position?

The corps member will become skilled in: volunteer management, oversight and training; logistics coordination/management; volunteer outreach with businesses, schools and non-profits; coordinate with social media and outreach coordinate and create social media posts; develop policies and procedures; develop and manage a tracking system for materials; evaluation of tracking system and processes.

AmeriCorps Librarian Coordinator

Program Mission and/ or Goals:
Lend teachers the equipment needed for hands on learning experiences in the classroom.

Member Position Summary:
The STEM Librarian Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Librarian with tasks related to library upkeep and coordinating events for the Equipment Lending Co-op. The Co-op works with local schools to provide science and STEM equipment using a library model. Teachers have the option to visit the library and browse or reserve equipment online to be delivered to their school. The Librarian Coordinator will also work with the Librarian to ensure that teachers have access to, and support for, our service offerings.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Planning events that demonstrate the proper use of equipment in the Library
  • Maintaining a calendar of Library Events Coordinating all Events with the STEM Outreach/Marketing Manager and Librarian
  • Generating partnerships with teachers to facilitate Library Events
  • Teacher outreach and marketing to ensure Events are well attended
  • Set up space in preparation of Event and breakdown
  • Administer Teacher Surveys after Events and collect data and share with staff
  • Assist in tabling at community events
  • Assist in documenting (photos, videos, testimonials) Events

 

Member Impact

We anticipate through the duties of the STEM Librarian Coordinator that more teachers will access not only the library but the Communities of Practice workshops that they hosts. These workshops will help teachers learn how to use various equipment that can be borrowed by teachers and well as network with other teachers in their field. Our short term goal is for more Communities of Practice workshops to take place and the long term goal is for more teachers to visit the Equipment Lending Library.

AmeriCorps Service Learning Coordinator

Service Learning gives students the opportunity to meet community needs through hands-on experiences that tie classroom curriculum to service.

Member Position Summary:

The Service Learning Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Service Learning Manager with promoting the Service Learning Program (SLP), conducting trainings, compiling applications and reports received from teachers. They will provide assistance to applicants throughout all aspects of the process from application to reporting and schedule and host SL trainings and SL professional development workshops with schools and other stakeholders.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Assist with maintaining an up-to-date Service Learning page on the website
  • Assist with coordinating and executing of the annual SL Event
  • Work with the SL Manager to coordinate and maintain application cycle calendar and site visit schedules
  • Provide assistance to applicants throughout all aspects of the process from application to reporting
  • Assist with SL marketing, including promoting SL at outreach events and maintaining an inventory of SL promotional items.
  • Schedule and host SL trainings and SL professional development workshops with schools and other stakeholders
  • Provide administration for the application process throughout all stages including receiving, assessing, tracking, and payment/check requests.
  • Maintain an accurate and timely database of non-profits, schools and other stakeholders
  • Ensure that protocols and communications are executed properly; for example, the use of change forms to record any significant changes to service learning plans

Member Impact

Through the work of the SLC we anticipate that more teachers will learn about the Service Learning program and apply to participate in the program. This will impact both the students and partnering non-profit organizations. More Ready-to-Go Projects will also be available to teachers because of the work of the SLC.

Member Position Summary:

  • Help create and edit short-form videos
  • Develop new strategies for increasing engagement
  • Assist with photo/video content shoots
  • Ensure brand message is consistent
  • Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
  • Support marketing team at live and online event
  • Perform social media marketing research
  • Develop a marketing and outreach plan
  • Research possible electronic and in-person opportunities for increasing awareness of SLL.
  • On a quarterly basis, prepare a timeline of upcoming marketing and outreach events and activities.
  • Track results of marketing and outreach events and propose new strategies as needed.

Member Impact

The SMMC will be responsible for the marketing growth of all 5 umbrella programs of STEM Library Lab, the Library, Free-Store, Professional Development, and EdOpportunities Database and the Service Learning Program. Over the course of their term of service, they will be responsible for designing and executing a social media strategy based on two principles, which are 1) content that better enables beneficiaries to engage with and implement high quality science, and 2) content that showcases the activities of the STEM education ecosystem. Short term goals will center around quality and quantity of marketing output, as measured by number of posts and emails, and the engagement response of these posts. Their overall metrics of success will be traffic to SLL’s programs and to the programs of other ecosystem partners.
